Julie Scharf is a Costume Designer and Writer based in Brooklyn, NY.

Graduating from Carnegie Mellon University, she earned a Bachelor of Humanities and Arts in Drama and Creative Writing.  She furthered her education by studying in London at Central Saint Martins as a member of their Performance Design & Practice program.

With her costumes, she aims to materialize the surreal through texture. With her writing, she contextualizes costume within performance studies as relates to celebrity, gender, and reflexivity. She has published her work in Studies in Costume and Performance, presented at the 2024 Critical Costume conference, and exhibited at the Prague Quadrennial 2023.

Her greatest inspirations are fairy tales.  Fairy tales with twisting trunks, weeping boughs, severed heels, and the finest gossamer.  Stylistically, she enjoys dancing on the graves of the dainty and the damned.

She finds joy in hand painting her renderings and disappearing into any movie theater with an empty seat.  Referring to her ever-expanding closet as a collection, she quells any suggestions that it should be downsized.  She is currently challenging herself to wear more practical shoes.
